Emergency Medical Response

and First Aid Services

BS"D

Code Zero Emergency Response (CZER) provides medical first response and first aid services to communities, commercial and industrial settings on land and water.

Our Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs) hold the A-EMCA credential for Primary Care Paramedics. That said, CZER does NOT provide emergency medical transport or paramedic services.

The role of our EMRs is:

  • to assess whether clients need first aid and/or paramedic services, and to call 9-1-1 rapidly if needed

  • to provide care for life-threatening emergencies and stabilize the client until Paramedic Services arrive

  • to reduce the length of time from injury to surgery to remain within the Golden Hour

  • To provide rapid defibrillation if necessary

  • To provide psychological support and first aid for non-life threatening issues

  • Reducing risk of infection to the client or their co-workers

  • To manage issues related to street outreach, homelessness, drug use and mental illness

  • To support Security Services in their role

  • To prevent drowning and rescue clients on boats or on the water

  • To provide roving first aid for school field trips, camps and scientific expeditions

What is a First Responder?

As a professional first response company, we do NOT transport sick or injured people to hospital. This service is only performed by municipal paramedic services.

Code Zero’s most important role is to be first on the scene, stabilize the patient and provide critical interventions needed to keep the patient alive until EMS arrives.

Another important aspect of Code Zero’s work is reducing EMS scene time – in other words, when EMS does arrive, they should be able to rapidly “load and go,” greatly improving chances of getting patients into hospital within the crucial “Golden Hour” for trauma patients and two hours for heart attack or stroke.

This is the difference between First Responders and Ambulance Officers such as Paramedics: a First Responder stabilizes, packages and prepares the patient for Paramedic Services to transport.

A first responder, then, is a role, often one filled by Police, Fire Fighters, Lifeguards, SAR technicians and many others.

It is not a specific level of training or care.

Code Zero's first responders are A-EMCA certified by Ontario Health, just as Primary Care Paramedics are.

Customer Service - an Indispensable Tool

Sometimes the difference between having a tough day and a full-blown emotional crisis can be one good episode of customer service.

Code Zero actively trains our responders for customer service during both initial training for new hires and during In-Service Training on an ongoing basis.

We do this because we know that good customer service is the difference between repeat customers and former customers who won’t come back.

Our responders are there to save lives but we are also there to make you look good. If your customers are aware you’ve provided Emergency Medical Responders on duty, and the EMRs are friendly and approachable, these customers go away impressed with the security company or event management who hired us.

This means responders taking the time to answer questions or give directions at the site make the public aware of your using Code Zero and makes them feel welcome, with facility or event staff one effective team rather than a group of disparate services.

When customer service becomes helping somebody in crisis, we call this Crisis Intervention. But the primary difference between crisis intervention and customer service is how upset the customer is. In either case, CZER medics are trained to help.
